Serengeti's Spectacular Drama: Witnessing the Great Migration & Mara River Crossing

This itinerary takes you to the north of Serengeti for a chance to witness the Great Migration. While the sight of hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebras thunder across the plains is spectacular, the Mara River crossing is absolutely one of the most breathtaking natural wonders in Africa.


Dust exploding, lions stalking a moveable feast, gigantic crocodiles and fast flowing wild rivers await. It is sensational, impressive and dramatic at the same time.

Day 1: Arrival – and Warm Welcome in Arusha

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro airport, you will be met by our company representative driver and transferred to Kibo Palace in Arusha for dinner and overnight. Get relaxed into your accommodation, ready to start your safari proper in the morning. If time permits, a complimentary town tour can be arranged.

  • Day 2: Arusha – Lake Manyara National Par

    After breakfast, we will depart from Arusha and head towards Manyara National Park with our packed lunch trailing the plains of Manyara National Park. Nestling at the base of Great Rift Valley escarpments, the park is recognized for its flamingos in the lake during migration, various birds’ species, Buffalos, Elephants, Giraffes, Impala, Hippo and large numbers of avian-fauna communities.

  • Day 3: Central – Serengeti National Park

    Depart this morning for a game drive in the central part of the Serengeti. This part is famous for the abundance of lions and leopards that can usually be seen quite easily. Game viewing in this central area is spectacular all year round. Enjoy the views of endless plains and stunning wildlife like cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, hippos, ostrich, aardvark, pangolin and many more. Dinner and overnight will be at

  • Day 4: North – Serengeti National Park

    After breakfast, you drive to the northern part of the Serengeti for a game drive along the Mara River. Depending on rainfall, the spectacular crossings of the Mara River can begin as early as June or as late as August. The wildebeest and zebras must survive the Nile crocodiles and fast-flowing water before facing the lions waiting on the other side. This time of the year game viewing is sensational, impressive, and dramatic.

  • Day 5:North – Serengeti National Park

    Another day of morning and afternoon game drives in the North Serengeti along the Mara River. Dust exploding, lions stalking a moveable feast, gigantic crocodiles and fast flowing wild rivers await the herds as they head north. The river crossing of thousands of wildebeest and zebras is absolutely one of the most breathtaking natural wonders in Africa. Return to Singita Mara River Tented Camp in the afternoon for dinner and overnight.

  • Day 6: Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro

    After breakfast you will depart for morning game drive with our picnic lunch toward central or short game drive the continues to Ngorongoro for dinner and overnight

  • Day 7: Ngorongoro Crater – Tarangire National Park

    After breakfast you will descend into the crater for a wonderful game drive (with a picnic lunch) inside the Ngorongoro Crater often described as one of the wonders of the world. It is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and natural sanctuary for some of Africa’s densest animal populations. It is one of the few places where the rare black rhino can be observed in their natural setting. As very few animals migrate in and out of the crater with its 2000 ft. High walls, you can expect to see lions, elephants, zebras, hippos, flamingos, jackals, rhinos, antelopes, many birds and other species.

  • Day 8: Full Day; Tarangire National Park

    After breakfast we depart for Tarangire, Tanzania’s third largest National park and sanctuary for unusually large elephant populations. Majestic baobab trees are an interesting feature of the park, dwarfing the animals that feed beneath them. Animals concentrate along the Tarangire River, which provides the only permanent water supply in the area. There is a great diversity of wildlife including lions, cheetahs and up to six thousand elephants, buffalos and zebras. There are over 550 bird varieties around the swamps in Tarangire which is the most breeding species in one habitat anywhere in the world.

  • Day 9: Departure from the lodge

    This morning drive for 3-hours to Arusha, for lunch before your return flight back home or onward travel. You like to extend your safari with a beach holiday? Tanzania offers perfect paradises to unwind after your safari such as Zanzibar, Pemba and Mafia.
